Engaging sci-fi Metroidvania

The Mobius Machine is a premium adventure experience that throws you into an alien world. This side-scrolling adventure from Madruga Works flawlessly combines exploration and Metroidvania elements, departing from the linear gameplay to give players more freedom as they would with an open world. Beyond its mysterious story, this game features miniaturized 3D textures and character designs that make every aspect of the game enjoyable.

Unlike other games such as Blasphemous or Hollow Knight where levels are physically separated, The Mobius Machine is just a massive singular entity you can explore at will, provided you have the skill or equipment necessary.

Survive on a hostile planet

The story behind The Mobius Machine is mostly hidden for the player to discover. An adventurer is stranded on an alien planet, forced to fight against a mix of organic and mechanical creatures. This sets the background for different level designs, you have post-apocalyptic wastelands, abandoned factories, and lush forests — each designed for immersion with 3D and high-resolution textures and models.

Like most Metroidvania games, the game follows a form of progression. Certain areas are accessible after unlocking a specific gear, letting you move and fight on air, ground, water, and beyond. Complimenting its 3D side-scrolling graphics is its seamless world design. Move from one area to another without loading screens, cut animations, or physical barriers. Combine this with an open-world approach, and you have a unique game at your hand.

The shooting mechanic, however, can be challenging at first. This game lets you shoot in any direction, which offers combat versatility provided you can surpass the initial learning curve. Also, the seamless transition can impose a different kind of challenge for players. Different areas flow smoothly together, which could make it difficult to keep track of the game’s various points of interest.

A next-gen side-scroller

Overall, The Mobius Machine marks a new generation of side-scrolling games. It features full 3D graphics and set designs, limited only by its 2D side-scrolling gameplay. To make it more immersive, the game features a seamless transition from one area to another plus an open-world Metroidvania approach. This combination, however, poses a new set of challenges such as the map appearing confusing for some players.

PROS

  • Features high-resolution 3D graphics
  • Uses a singular, seamless map
